A simple way to brighten up any bedroom.

We recommend Alsuna Crazy Bird letters to decorate the plaques, as the colours really stand out from the plaque, creating a unique and personalised gift. We use blue tack to fix the letters to our plaques, they stay in place really well and can be removed if required (perhaps if a child decides they would rather be known by a nickname in future years, for example). Our customers have also recommended self-adhesive pads or glue for a more permanent solution.
The name plaques can fit a maximum of five to nine letters, depending on size.

Do you have a toddler who loves to run? You turn your back for a second, only to find that your little one has vanished into thin air? This fantastic product could be the answer!

Now, instead of this, imagine another scenario. The day begins in the same way, with the suggestion of a trip to the park. Your little one will be thrilled to pack their favorite toy, a drink, maybe a snack. As they stand proudly with their rucksack firmly in place, you are ready to go, and everyone is still smiling!

You now have a secure hold of your child, or at least the bag they are wearing, yet they are completely unaware! Now you can both walk happily together, safe in the knowledge that your child cannot escape.

If you stop to talk to a neighbour, or turn your back, you will feel a tug on the lead if your little one wanders off. They will not get far of course, and you can quickly take their hand or distract them until you are ready to walk on together.

British Summer Time Begins!

At last! After a long, cold, and very grey winter season, we are heading for the corner turning clock change! Hurrah we hear you cry, unless you are a parent of small children! What to us is the difference of just an hour, can be a complete upheaval to routine, sleep patterns, and general well being for your little one, which is the introduction to a long season of ever increasing daylight to their bed time routine.

Over the years we have come across many different solutions to ‘time versus light’ products ranging from simple story books explaining the process, to elaborate time pieces with anything from startled animal expressions on appropriate waking hours to noises indicating that although it has been light for the last 3 hours, only now is it time for your toddler to emerge from their sleeptime!

As you’ve heard us say before, the simplest solutions are usually the best! The gro anywhere blind from grogroup is one such product. Grogroup market it as a product to take on holidays etc, but we think this is an added bonus. It is ideal to use at home during the spring and summertime as a black out blind, without needing to permanently install roller blinds etc, with it’s easily attatched suction cups, which are very effective. Ten days to go before Christmas and The Nursery Shop is a centre of buzzing activity, with even yours truly being released from the back room to help serve customers and replenish the shop floor with toys, gifts and clothes.
I know one lucky boy, or girl, will be receiving one of my favourite toys from the shop. The Pintoy red fire engine has been a long time favourite, especially at Christmas time: A well made traditional wooden fire engine toy.
There always seems to be something more tactile and pleasing about wooden toys.

Abingdons Christmas Extravaganza

This year the turning on of the Christmas lights was on Tuesday 30th November, and the theme was pirates. A good choice by the town as The Nursery Shop has a wide selection of pirate related toys, Christmas gifts and stocking fillers. Such as the Pirate Wibbly Wobbly Acrobat as an ideal stocking filler , the Captain Hook Tell-a-tale puppets and of course a pirate costume for 3 to 6 year olds.

Unfortunately yours truly was overseas for that week and forgot to ask someone to take photos. In loo of a picture of the Abingdon extravaganza I have included a picture I took last night outside the town hall.

By all accounts though it was a huge successful evening and considering the winter weather the people of Abingdon still came out in force to support and join in with the towns celebration.

Too Cheap!

Heard a story the other day from one of the staff at The Nursery Shop . A customer told her that their prices where too cheap. Not to sound offended she replied that they tend to follow the recommended retail price and besides if they raised the prices then maybe they wouldn't sell so much.
Made me think though. Although I only work on the website I like to keep involved with what is happening in the big picture and when in Oxford I noticed a big chain store selling a similar train set to the wooden train set at a few pounds more.
Think I may have to suggest to The Nursery Shop a price comparison page?

Christmas list have been written in their best handwriting and posted in Santa's post box in the shop. The children have also written their lists too..

Already toys are starting to sell out as it is a frantic time for the staff to keep the shelves full and stay in contact with the manufacturers and suppliers to find out what has run out.

All signs are that the traditional quality toys are what is on Santa's list this year.

I have also just started a discussion on our Facebook page for what you favourite 2010 Christmas toy will be.
